How We Test Every Console

We don't just plug a console in and call it done. Every unit goes through a structured testing process before it's listed for sale. This is what we check:

Power & Boot Test

Console powers on cleanly, reaches the main menu or dashboard without errors. Power LED and any indicator lights function correctly.

Disc / Cartridge Read Test

We load a known-good game and verify it reads correctly. For disc-based systems, we test multiple discs including a dual-layer title where applicable.

AV Output Test

Picture and sound output tested via the included cable type (composite, SCART, HDMI). We check for signal stability and audio on both channels.

Controller Port Test

All controller ports tested with a working pad. Every button, analogue stick, and trigger verified for correct response.

Memory / Save Test

Where applicable, internal memory or memory card slots are tested. We verify saves write and read correctly.

Physical Inspection

Shell cleaned, yellowing noted, cracks or damage photographed and described honestly in the listing. We don't hide cosmetic issues.

Console Eras We Stock

We cover the full history of home gaming hardware. Whether you're after a first-generation machine or a last-gen powerhouse, here's a guide to the eras you'll find in our catalogue:

8-bit Era (1983–1992)

NES, Master System, Game Boy. The foundations of modern gaming. Cartridge-based, simple, and endlessly replayable. Great entry point for collectors.

16-bit Era (1988–1996)

Super Nintendo, Mega Drive, Game Gear. The golden age of 2D gaming. Arguably the most beloved era among retro collectors worldwide.

32/64-bit Era (1994–2002)

PlayStation 1, Nintendo 64, Sega Saturn. The leap to 3D. Iconic franchises were born here — Metal Gear, Zelda: OoT, Crash Bandicoot, Final Fantasy VII.

128-bit Era (2000–2006)

PlayStation 2, Xbox, GameCube, Dreamcast. The PS2 remains the best-selling console of all time. Enormous software libraries at very accessible prices.

HD Era (2005–2013)

Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii. Online gaming went mainstream. Massive libraries of excellent titles now available at bargain pre-owned prices.

Modern Era (2013–present)

PS4, Xbox One, Switch. Still current enough to feel modern, old enough to find great pre-owned deals. Huge libraries, excellent value.

Frequently Asked Questions — Consoles

Do consoles come with cables and controllers?

Each listing specifies exactly what's included — console, cables, controllers, memory cards. We list "console only", "console + controller", and "full bundle" options separately so you know what you're buying.

Are retro consoles region-locked?

Most retro consoles are region-locked by default. PAL consoles play PAL games. We note any modified or region-free units in the listing. If you need to play NTSC games, check the product description carefully.

What if the console stops working after I receive it?

Our 30-day guarantee covers faults that develop after purchase. Contact us and we'll arrange a free return and full refund or replacement. Retro electronics can be temperamental — we stand behind what we sell.

Do you sell spare parts or accessories?

We stock controllers, memory cards, and cables for most platforms. Check our Merch & Accessories section or search for your specific accessory.

Can I trade in my old console?

Absolutely. Visit our Trade-in page to get a quote. We accept consoles in any condition — working or not.
